Genome-Wide Expression and Alternative Splicing in Domesticated Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus L.) under Flooding Stress

چکیده

Approximately 10% of agricultural land is subject to periodic flooding, which reduces the growth, survivorship, and yield most crops, reinforcing need understand enhance flooding resistance in our crops. Here, we generated RNA-Seq data from leaf root tissue domesticated sunflower explore differences gene expression alternative splicing (AS) between a resistant susceptible cultivar under both control conditions at three time points. Using combination mixed model co-expression analyses, were able separate general responses stress those that contribute greater tolerance line. Both cultivars responded by upregulating levels known submergence responsive genes, such as alcohol dehydrogenases, slowing metabolism-related activities. Differential AS reinforced differences, with reduced frequencies typically observed for genes upregulated expression. Significant found genotypes, including earlier stronger upregulation fermentation pathway more rapid return pre-flooding genotype. Our results show how changes timing following induction release increased tolerance.

Determination of Growth Stage-Specific Crop Coefficients (Kc) of Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus L.) under Salt Stress

Crop coefficients (Kc) are important for the development of irrigation schedules, but few studies on Kc focus on saline soils. To propose the growth-stage-specific Kc values for sunflowers in saline soils, a two-year micro-plot experiment was conducted in Yichang Experimental Station, Hetao Irrigation District. Four salinity levels including non-salinized (ECe = 3.4–4.1 dS·m–1), low (ECe = 5.5–...

Complete Mitochondrial Genome Sequence of Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

This is the first complete mitochondrial genome sequence for sunflower and the first complete mitochondrial genome for any member of Asteraceae, the largest plant family, which includes over 23,000 named species. The master circle is 300,945-bp long and includes 27 protein-coding sequences, 18 tRNAs, and the 26S, 5S, and 18S rRNAs.

Molecular and Physiological Responses of Sunflower (helianthus Annuus L.) to Pgpr and Sa under Salt Stress

This paper presents the efficacy of PGPR (Azospirillum and Pseudomonas) and its modulation by salicylic acid. Two hybrids of sunflower (Hysun and Parsun) were inoculated with Azospirillum spp. and Pseudomonas spp. prior to sowing. Salt stress (20 dSm) was applied 28 d after sowing followed by foliar spray of salicylic acid (100 μM) after 4 h of salt treatment. Azospirillum and Pseudomonas inocu...

Genetic Architecture of Capitate Glandular Trichome Density in Florets of Domesticated Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Capitate glandular trichomes (CGT), one type of glandular trichomes, are most common in Asteraceae species. CGT can produce various secondary metabolites such as sesquiterpene lactones (STLs) and provide durable resistance to insect pests. In sunflower, CGT-based host resistance is effective to combat the specialist pest, sunflower moth. However, the genetic basis of CGT density is not well und...

Genetic analysis of proline concentration under osmotic stress in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Proline concentration has been often suggested as an indicator of osmotic stress. A better understanding of the genetics of this trait is however needed. In the present study, proline concentration has been assessed, together with root and stem growth, potassium, calcium and total soluble sugars concentration and stress injury symptoms, in seedlings of sunflower hybrids and their parents grown ...
